Have you had your eye out for a simple white ash platform bed without a headboard? With its unique dovetail joinery at the corners, and 1.75″ thick solid wood platform, Platform Bed No. 4 packs a lot of heirloom quality into a relatively small shipment. We’ve taken the minimal mid century platform bed in a special direction with this bed design. At first, it appears simple. An elegant rounded edge wraps around the 1.75″ thick solid wood platform bed frame. Platform Bed No. 4’s simple profile may almost convince you there isn’t much to this bed, but then you’ll notice the joinery which is quite unique.
Each corner of the bed frame is a carved dovetail half-lap joint. That joint is then locked in place by threading in the leg below it. We offer the legs for this bed in two styles: a straight cylinder or a tapered leg with round foot. In addition, we make the bed in any height from 5-14″.
Part of crafting a true heirloom-quality piece, means creating a design that can be styled and updated with changing tastes. Use this bed without a headboard, or add a wall-mounted one to shift the look. Other options include hanging a piece of art, a piece of upholstery, or even a live edge wood slab. The simplicity of the frame makes it future proof to your changing needs.
Each modern wood platform bed is built with robust hardwood slats that nest into pocketed solid wood rails. Beds larger than twin are constructed with a solid hardwood mid beam and center leg to prevent sagging. This solid white ash platform bed without a headboard is designed for use without a foundation or box spring.
The platform shown is 14 inches from the ground. We offer this bed in the height of your choosing from 5″-14″.
Please Note: For 3in Platform Height, only 1 Leg Style is available. If you select this 3in height, your legs will be 3in Diameter at no extra cost.
On our furniture pieces, we use 2 different eco-friendly finishes, depending on wood species. On darker woods that benefit from a slightly amber tone we use Rubio Monocoat, a Zero-VOC Oil-Wax Finish. On lighter color woods where a non-yellowing finish is preferable, we use a Osmo Oil, a Low-VOC Oil finish.

We make this to order in standard bed sizes. Use the drop down list to make your selection.
Platform Heights: 5″-14″ Select your preference from the drop down list, and we’ll build it just for you. The platform is 1.75″ thick, so space underneath is 1.75″ less than the total platform height.
The bed frame extends 1 inch around outside the dimension of the mattress along the rails and footboard. Slats are spaced under 2 inches apart to provide a supportive foundation for your mattress.

I wanted a king-size platform, which have inherent structural issues with just a single, central support.
I asked for two supports.
No problem! The middle, lengthwise support was moved to the first 1/3 of width, and an additional, identical, support was placed at the 2/3 point.
The design is so elegant that it took less time to assemble than to unpack the components, which were expertly packaged for shipping.
I have worked with wood over much of my life. I have never seen something this large, made of wood, fit together with such ease. This signifies really quality stock cut with great precision.
The finish was exactly as I expected and is beautiful.
